taking Florida into the future one railway at a time.

brief union history

In the late 1800's workers began to go on strike against the big businesses due to pay cuts and the harsh conditions. This is when unions became a big thing. Unions have always been on the ups and downs with the American people but particularly in the late 1800's was the rise of the labor unions.

LABOR UNION CARTOON.

My interpretation of this cartoon is that it is on the back of the hard factory worker that the big businesses were built upon. That the big businesses were blinding the workers of all the harm that was being done to them.

Labor unions

The early labor unions In the later part of the 1800's were started due to the horrible harsh working conditions.WOrkers labored for over 80 hours in a week and would only receive 10 dollars wages . The working conditions were harsh there was no workers comp or anything.

The klan used to ride through towns and scare freed slaves telling them that they were ghosts of dead confederate soldiers .Later in the Klans years they began terrorizing groups such as Jews , Catholics ,Gays and African Americans. Brutal beatings murders and lynchings occurred due to the klan. The klan still exists today but with much decreased numbers and more of a psudo military feel.

Questions for Freeman's bureau act

  1.  After reading the Bill, what plans do you see laid out for the former slaves? That they can now own land ext.
  2. What do you think could have been added to the bill to garner broader support? What could have been changed or taken away? More power could have been given to the former slaves and benefits for them
  3. Aside from their opposition to the abolition of slavery, what problems do you think the members of Southern States had with the Bill? Can you think of anything that would have appeased them. Allowing harsher laws to be put on the African Americans , and taking away more of their rights.
